How to find an IT job in Australia

Unlike many other countries, to find a job in Australia you must have a visa that allows you to work in Australia. But being said that, there are exceptions where your employer helps you to get a valid visa. Please see my previous post for more details about that. In this post the focus is when you have a valid visa how you can fast track your job search.

Regardless of you are inside Australia or not, you will need follow some tips. The first obvious tip is networking. There is no secret you can connect with recruiters via LinkedIn. You should maintain an up to date LinkedIn profile. Recruiters will connect with you if they come across with a matching opportunity. Usually, recruiters come across hundreds of opportunities daily, then there is a higher chance of getting contacted by them if you have a better network.

The second method, that I would recommend you is getting recommended by an existing employee. If you have a friend who is currently working in Australia, this is a good moment to ask for a help. I can imagine you would be thinking that whether it is ok to ask for such a help or whether he would be able to secure you the job. Yes, he will not be able to get the job for you, but definitely he can arrange an interview and your interview process will be prioritised. Most of the time, your friend will get an bonus if you nail the interview.

May be you don't have any friend and also you are not contacted by any recruiter. Don't worry. Still you can directly apply for companies. But how do I apply. There are a few ways. One of the less famous ways  is search for IT companies in Google Map in a particular region you like. Through the google search results, you can find their websites. There you go. Company websites presents upcoming positions and their contact details. Further you can perform a job search on LinkedIn, Seek.com, indeed.com and etc. You will find hundreds of jobs.

When you apply for jobs, don't apply with a common CV. Take some time and update your CV according to role you are applying and as per the requirements that are looked for. If you are applying for jobs while you are outside Australia, it is important to have a Australian mobile number. Wait. Australian number? Yes, Australian number. You can purchase an Australia number via skype. Please visit https://secure.skype.com/en/skype-number

This is the process I tried and happy to say I was successful. Hope you will benefit as well. Share your thoughts on comments. Cheers!

Migration paths for IT professionals into Australia

I think this is the best time to talk about migrating into Australia. Due to the pandemic, Australia closed its borders and limited issuing visa for foreign nationals. Even though this decision helped the country to control Covid, it hit hard all the industries including IT. At the moment this blog is being written, there is a huge demand for IT professionals. The government is planning to relax visa procedure for a selected set of skills. If you are looking forward to migrate into Australia good time is ahead. Honestly, current moment is also far better than the situation compared to two years back. Here I will list down some visa options you can consider to become a permanent resident(PR) in Australia. Some processes requires harder effort than the others and please note that these are not the only available paths. Also I do not suppose to discuss PR visas(189/190) in this post. Please comment down, if you would need a separate post on them. 186 - Employer Nomination Scheme This visa...
